St. Perpetua Faith Formation Youth Ministry – Youth Masses
To Know Christ Better To Make Christ Better Known To Be the Best Version of Yourself
August 26, 2019
St. Perpetua’s High School Youth Ministry provides a place for teens to learn, share, and build a faith community. As one component of St. Perpetua’s Youth Ministry, our Teen / Familly youth focused liturgies welcomes all teens from 9th through 12th grade. Just as we need to gather regularly as a family at home to listen to one another and celebrate who we are, so must we come together as a parish family to listen to God's Word and break bread in memory of Jesus. With this regular experience we begin to appreciate the Sunday Eucharist as the source and summit of our faith life and to discover ways to live a Eucharistic spirituality in our daily lives.
St. Perpetua offers a Youth Mass approximately twice a month during the school year (sometimes on consecutive weekends to account for holidays) for the teens of our parish, and their families. The Youth Mass offers teens a special opportunity to celebrate together in a small, intimate, youth-oriented Liturgy where parish teens have the opportunity to participate in various ministry roles of the mass. The music, more contemporary, and the liturgy a little more inviting and easy to follow, help lead to a deeper participation in the mass by teens. The Youth Mass also provides an opportunity for teens to reacquaint themselves with old friends and to meet with other teens in the parish.
Here are the details on the roles at mass teens have:
Cross Bearer – Carry the cross in the procession and recession.
Lector - Share the good news and proclaim the Word of God - the first reading, the second reading, and the petitions.
Usher – Collect weekly mass offerings.
Power Point Slide Master – Help with switching slides at mass
Gift Bearers - Bring forth the gifts for the celebration of the Eucharist. We need three gift bearers to participate where the collection basket, the bread, and the wine are brought forward.
Eucharistic Minister - If you are a confirmed teen you may serve as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist.
Music Ministry - Share your gift of music and help us lead the congregation in praising the Lord through song. Join this upbeat, contemporary group and help provide the wonderful music that makes our Youth Mass so unique. We can use your voice and your musical talent whether it is piano, acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, percussion, and voices.
Bulletins – Hand out bulletins at the conclusion of mass.
Whether we have a specific role at the Youth Masses, or not, we all work with another to make everyone feel welcome and work diligently together to provide an uplifting and prayerful atmosphere for the Mass. Our goal remains simple: grow closer to Christ ourselves, and encourage others to do the same, which is why we do what we do. The Teen/Family Youth Masses are at the 11:30am Liturgy on designated Sundays. + September 15 and 29 + October 13 and 27 + November 3 and 17 + December 8 and 22 + January 12 and 26 + February 2, 23, and Ash Wednesaday, February 26 + March 1, 8, and 22 + April 5, Holy Thursday April 9, April 19 + May 3, 16, and 17
